Is papaya good for skin whitening?

Carica papaya is a herbaceous succulent plant popularly known as pawpaw, and belongs to the Caricaceae family. It is a fast-growing, short-lived, tropical tree, cultivated for its fruit, papain, pectin, and antibacterial substances. Its origin is in the tropics of the Americas, perhaps from Central America and southern Mexico.

Papaya also is the name for the large, juicy, melon-like, edible fruit of this tree. It has black seeds in the center and color from an amber to a yellow hue. The papaya fruit is both delicious and nutritious. It is rich sources of iron, calcium, vitamin A, B, G and an excellent source of vitamin C (ascorbic acid).    

In traditional medicine, papaya leaves have been used as a treatment for malaria, upset stomach, purgative, urinary tract infections.

In folk medicine, papaya seeds were used to reduce inflammation and pain due to their analgesic properties. Raw papaya fruit  was used for all aliments of the digestive system. Women in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and various other parts of the world have used papaya as a folk remedy for contraception and abortion. Papaya contains antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antimicrobial properties.

Green papaya is used in Southeast Asian cooking, both raw and cooked in some parts of Asia, the young leaves of the papaya are steamed and eaten like spinach. It is used to make tea.
